Day 25 Richmond, Indiana to Indianapolis, Indiana 110km

It was a tough grind today with the wind in our face most of the day. We avoided a couple of storms which passed just to our north. We made it to Indianapolis for the night.

Day 24 Xenia, Ohio to Richmond, Indiana 90km

It was cooler and dull today with some rain in the early afternoon. We spend the first 60km in the bike paths which are everywhere around Xenia and Dayton. It is a great area to be a cyclist. Once we got back on the roads we were stopped by a women who insisted we go back to her restaurant and have a free drink and some food. As we has just eaten we only took her up on her offer for the free drink. She was 2nd generation Irish and her daughter had lived in Ireland. We crossed into Indiana at the end of the day.

Day 23 Delaware, Ohio to Xenia, Ohio 128km

Today was a perfect day for cycling, the sun was shining but it never got too hot, while the terrain was flat and we had no real wind to deal with. For the second half of the day we were on a bike path. We are leaving our original planned route here and heading towards St Louis to see the gateway arch and then cycle the Katy trail.

Day 22 Delaware, Ohio (Rest day)

Today was the 4th of July or Independence Day which is like a combination of paddy's day and Halloween. We went to the parade in the morning which was small and very like a paddy's day parade back home. After relaxing for the afternoon we went and caught the end of the local symphony performing and then the huge fireworks display. The whole town was out in their camp chairs to watch the fireworks. Delaware is really nice town with a Wesleyan university at its centre.

Day 21 Mifflin, Ohio to Delaware, Ohio 96km

We started out early this morning and we were in Delaware before 2pm. Today's route saw us pass a lot of big dairy farms and some huge fields of corn. With our early finish we got a chance to do some laundry which had been building up for the last week. We are staying in a lovely motel close to the centre of Delaware. We are taking a rest day here tomorrow to enjoy the 4th of July celebrations.

Day 20 Westlake,Ohio to Mifflin, Ohio 116km

We left Cleveland and Lake Erie behind today as we dropped south into rural Ohio. Plenty of farms and countryside to admire today. We had a pretty strong headwind most of the day so we are very happy with our distance. The plan is to get to Delaware tomorrow and stay there for the 4th of July.

Day 19 Painesville, Ohio to Westlake, Ohio 87km

We spent all day going through the suburbs and then the centre of Cleveland. It seemed like a nice city with some impressive mansions on the outskirts. We stopped early to watch the US game and avoid any afternoon storms. It was 26c when we set off at 8am this morning so it was another hot day.

Every day we are having at least two or three conversations with people asking us about our trip. Most claim to have some kind of Irish heritage. Today we had a half hour conversation with an old guy who emigrated to the US from the Lebanon. He had a lot of stories for us none of which I could repeat here.
